A new Morning Consult poll finds that 54% of voters agree with the jury’s decision to convict Donald Trump.

Morning Consult provided their findings to PoliticusUSA, and here are some takeaways:
-53% of registered voters who saw, read or heard “many times” about the New York jury’s decision to convict former President Donald Trump were the same group of voters who said the same thing immediately after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel flat.
– More than half (54%) of registered voters “strongly” or “somewhat” support the jury’s decision, while 34% disapprove.
– 76% of Republican voters said the verdict made them less confident in the U.S. criminal justice system. While 52% of voters believe the verdict was based on evidence of Trump’s crimes, 77% of Republican voters and 43% of independent voters believe the verdict was motivated by harming his political career.
The Morning Consult poll is an online survey that’s notoriously unreliable, but it does have a large sample of 2,200 respondents.
Trump’s post-verdict questions
Assuming these numbers are accurate, virtually most people in the country have not heard much about the trial and verdict. In this case, it’s terrible news for Trump because Democrats and their allied outside groups have hundreds of millions to billions of dollars on hand to spread the word that Trump is a convicted felon.
The fact that most independents do not believe Trump’s claims that the trial and verdict were politically motivated could be devastating for Trump because he has failed to unite the Republican Party. Trump cannot win an election with independents, which is a huge problem for his campaign if a majority of voters believe he is guilty.
Trump has still failed to unite the Republican Party, and Morning Consult also found that 15% of Republicans want Trump to end his presidential campaign. The proportion of Republicans who do not support Trump remains stubbornly at 15%-20%. Without the unity and support of the Republican Party, Donald Trump cannot win.
In a close election, there are no early signs that Trump’s message about the verdict will reach anyone outside the Republican base, but there is evidence that Democrats and their allies could use the verdict to shape their decisions. Pu cannot be elected.
