Well, that’s not going to go down well with the Trump crowd. Next week’s cover of The New Yorker will feature an illustration of Donald J. Trump with his tiny hands ready to be handcuffed, created by John Cuneo.

Even though the Justice Department is also prosecuting the son of a sitting president, MAGA is already screaming and howling that this verdict is rigged, so you can bet they won’t be able to tolerate even the slightest ridicule of their leader’s guilty verdict.
But from a political perspective, Donald Trump cannot win in 2024 with his MAGA base alone. Once ridicule reaches a certain level of national acceptance, it tends to stick to the candidate, fair or not (which it certainly is). Polls already show a guilty verdict could be costly for Trump.
Trump faces three other trials, including one in Georgia on charges that he tried to overturn his loss in the state by pressuring officials to get him votes; the other on Jan. 6 Japan’s federal case on charges of sedition and sedition over his efforts to retain power after losing the 2020 election. The third case.
The cover will be one of many showing the former president and possible Republican presidential candidate in handcuffs. Republicans chose to back the felon, handing control of the party to him and his family and urging their candidates to support him. Trump Felon is their brand now.
