A car shooting in downtown Los Angeles left one person dead and two others injured early Sunday when a gunman apparently emerged from the sunroof of one car and opened fire on people in another car, police said.
Officer Norma Eisenman, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, said the shooting occurred minutes after midnight at Maple Avenue and 3rd Street in Santee Alley, in the heart of Los Angeles’ fashion district. near the intersection of 12th Street.
Eisenman said the gunman, whose vehicle was parked next to another vehicle that was stopped, fired multiple shots through the sunroof, hitting three people in the other vehicle before fleeing.
Eisenman said a male victim, believed to be between 17 and 20 years old, died at the hospital. Two other victims – a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman – were taken to hospital, where the victim is in critical condition and she is in stable condition.
Eisenman said police believe the shooting was “Gang-related” But she gave no further details about how they came to this conclusion.
The investigation is ongoing and police have not made any arrests, she said.
