Families of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting immediately asked a judge to liquidate Alex Jones’ media company after he announced that the federal government was plotting a forceful takeover of his broadcast studio. Includes Infowars.
Jones previously asked a judge for time to reorganize his business as the Sandy Hook family seeks to recoup the $1.5 billion they received in the outlandish verdict against him.
On Sunday, family attorneys filed an emergency motion in Houston bankruptcy court to redouble their efforts to shut down Infowars.
Lawyers for the Sandy Hook family say Alex Jones’ parent company Free Speech Systems has “no prospects” of developing a court-approved reorganization plan and has “failed to show any hope of beginning to meet” its legal demands .
A hearing in the Free Speech Systems bankruptcy case is scheduled for Monday to resolve the plaintiffs’ dispute over the company’s finances.
Jones warned during an emergency broadcast Saturday that federal agents could lock the studio doors and liquidate all broadcast assets pending the family’s bankruptcy court filing.

The Infowars host said he even spent the night in his studio and was prepared to involve local law enforcement to prevent what he said was an illegal raid on his property.
In a video posted on Friday titled “BREAKING! INFOWARS MAY BE SHUT DOWN IN 48 HOURS,” Jones said, “The deep state thinks they are taking down Trump. Hours after they were wrongfully convicted, they moved to shut down InfoWars.
Jones has been outspoken about attacks on his platform over the past six years, including deplatforming, deep state interference and rigged trials. Despite these challenges, InfoWars survives due to overwhelming public support. However, Jones warned this latest attack could be the final blow.
“I learned at 4:00 this afternoon, just a few hours ago, that InfoWars would be closing tonight. We hired security here, a private contractor. They were told, ‘Get ready to close the doors, change the locks, InfoWars It’s going to be closed,'” Jones said Friday.
“I found out about this and said, ‘Okay, I’m going to expose this. I’m going to talk about this. This is all bankrupt. This is not what the courts do. I’m going to reveal who’s behind this very soon.’ So. I made some calls and did some stuff and they said, “Okay, if you do X, Y and Z, we’re going to quit for now. “I don’t believe anything I’m told. So when I tell you this could be the last show I do on Infowars, there’s a 50% chance. There’s a 50% chance that’s what’s happening now,” he added.
The liquidation would require Jones to hand over his companies, assets and most of what he owned to creditors, including the Sandy Hook family.
His home and personal belongings will be saved from bankruptcy liquidation.
The court has not yet ruled on the liquidation provisions in Jones’ case.
On December 14, 2012, a mass shooting occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut, killing 20 children and six staff. Adam Lanza murdered children at Sandy Hook School. The Lanza estate paid a total of $1.5 million to the Sandy Hook family in the lawsuit.
Jones speculated on the air at the time that the U.S. government might have falsified or withheld information about the shooting, and speculated that the massacre might have been planned to serve as an excuse for gun control.
Many family members of Sandy Hook victims sued Jones and won two trials in Connecticut and Texas. Relatives claim they have been traumatized by Jones’ comments and that his fans have harassed and threatened them with death threats for years.
Jones’ defense was his right to free speech and that he was not responsible for the harassment. He lost.
Infowars reported that Jones “never mentioned the names of the many plaintiffs who sued him in many cases.” “The second-highest award ever awarded by a jury to a plaintiff was $90 million to FBI agent William Oldenberg (whose name Jones never mentioned), despite his role in the mass shooting. “There is no connection whatsoever to any of the children or staff who lost their lives.”
Jones resigned last year to defend himself and his comments after a Connecticut jury ordered him to pay $965 million in damages to 15 victims’ relatives and an additional $473 million in legal fees for spreading “misinformation.” Liberty Systems files for bankruptcy.
In October, U.S. District Judge Christopher Lopez in Texas ruled that Jones could not use bankruptcy protection to avoid payments to the families of victims of the Sandy Hook shooting.
According to the Daily Mail:
If the case is dismissed, Jones would be back where he was after winning $1.5 billion in damages from the lawsuit and would send efforts to recover damages back to the state court where the judgment was entered.
…
Jones personally has about $9 million in assets, including his $2.6 million Austin-area home and other real estate, according to the latest financial statements filed in bankruptcy court. He also listed living expenses in April alone as about $69,000, including about $16,500 in home maintenance, housekeeping and insurance.
Infowars’ parent company, Free Speech Systems, has 44 employees and had nearly $4 million in cash on hand at the end of April. The company had revenue of nearly $3.2 million in April, including sales of dietary supplements, clothing and other items that Jones promoted on the show, while listing expenses of $1.9 million.
Jones and the Sandy Hook family have made different proposals to repay the $1.5 billion he owes them. Last year, Free Speech Systems submitted a plan that would leave $7 million to $10 million annually to repay creditors.
The families later came up with their own counter-proposals: Either liquidate Jones’ estate and hand the proceeds to creditors, or pay them at least $8.5 million a year for 10 years, plus 50% of annual income above $9 million.
