Acer isn’t a brand usually associated with photography, but its new cameras have an interesting feature – the ability to capture photos and videos in stereoscopic 3D. Announced ahead of next week’s Computex event, the SpatialLabs Eyes stereo camera will also allow users to live stream 3D content to YouTube and conduct 3D video calls on Zoom, Teams and Google Meet.
Acer said the SpatialLabs Eyes stereo camera will be available in the third quarter of this year, starting at $549. It’s fully integrated with Acer’s line of SpatialLabs 3D devices, such as the Aspire 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition laptop, which wowed us with their impressive ability to display glasses-free 3D content. Images and videos recorded on SpatialLabs cameras can also be viewed on other 3D-capable displays, 3D projectors, VR headsets, or the camera itself.
Support for 3D live streaming and conference calls is a niche feature, but it’s nice to see Acer expand its SpatialLabs 3D technology. The 3D experience provided by Acer really needs to be experienced to understand how visually stunning things are to watch. Reach out your hand Can see you without the help of glasses. It’s far superior (and more enjoyable to watch) than older glasses-free 3D offerings like Nintendo’s 3DS handheld device, and SpatialLabs cameras make shooting this kind of content much more accessible to those without extensive photography knowledge.
The SpatialLabs camera is compact, weighing 220 grams (0.4 pounds) and measuring 4 x 2.5 x 0.9 inches. It has a resolution of 8 million pixels per eye, a built-in “selfie mirror”, and some familiar photography features such as electronic image stabilization (EIS) and the ability to manually adjust ISO, white balance, and shutter speed settings. The camera also features a 1500mAh battery capacity, a microSD card slot for expanded storage, and a 2.4-inch touchscreen included in a “weatherproof” casing.
YouTube Live will require the latest version of Acer’s SpatialLabs Player, while 3D video conferencing support (also featuring “customizable depth capabilities”) will be enabled through the incoming SpatialLabs Video Call widget, which will also be available in Q3 Launched at some time.
