Design software developer Serif has launched a new six-month free trial for its Affinity creative suite, considered one of the few viable alternatives to Adobe’s professional design apps. Starting today, the offer is available on Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, and Affinity Publisher, available on Mac, Windows PC, and iPad.
Affinity uses a one-time purchase pricing model, which has earned it a loyal fan base among creatives who are tired of recurring subscription fees. Pricing for Affinity starts at $69.99 for the personal desktop app and $164.99 for the entire suite, and is currently offering customers 50% off all perpetual licenses as a standalone deal.
The discount, coupled with a six-month free trial, may be an attempt to ease concerns that Affinity will change its pricing model after being acquired by Canva earlier this year. “We say ‘try it all, pay nothing’ because we know making a change can be a big step forward, especially for busy professionals,” Affinity CEO Ashley Hewson said. “Anyone who participates in the trial is under absolutely no obligation to purchase.”
in a decoder In an interview published today, Canva CEO Melanie Perkins declined to describe her product as a complete alternative to Adobe Creative Cloud. However, she said the design market “is a bit of a one-horse race, and I don’t think that works out well for anyone… I think being able to give professional designers another option in the market benefits everyone.”
