Alaska AirlinesThe flight attendants union said on Friday it had reached a “record” temporary labor agreement with the airline, ending a drought of new contracts for flight attendants who had been demanding pay increases for years.
Details of the deal, which was reached through federal mediation, were not immediately made public. The Association of Flight Attendants said it would be reviewed by union leadership and then voted on by rank-and-file members.

However, a spokesperson for the company said the parties “have made good progress in negotiations this week, adding to the industry-leading proposals we have been discussing for months.”
United Airlines is also negotiating a new contract with its flight attendants union.
Strikes in the U.S. airline industry are extremely rare. If an agreement cannot be reached, there may be a 30-day cooling-off period before a possible shutdown.
