The ongoing outage prevents Amazon Kindle users from downloading new and previously purchased books to their e-readers. According to a moderator who responded to a user reporting the issue on Amazon’s support forum, the company is aware of the issue and is “currently working to resolve it.” Attempting other troubleshooting steps, such as resetting the device, did not resolve the issue, so users may need to wait until this issue is resolved.
Nice e-reader reported the issue on Wednesday, noting that a response from Amazon support said it was the result of a “server issue” and that “it will take at least 48 hours for the e-book to start downloading again, but it may be longer.”
edge Amazon has been contacted for details and we will update this article if we find out any additional details.
Users on Reddit have shared similar issues with their Kindles, and on Amazon’s support forums, there are several reports that the Kindle can only download the title and cover of a book before the progress indicator gets stuck at 1%. The outage also appears to have affected users trying to use Libby to download books from Overdrive to Kindle devices. However, downloading books to the Amazon Kindle app for iOS and Android is not affected.
A week ago, several Kindle users on Reddit reported issues with Amazon’s “Send to Kindle” feature, which allows e-books and files to be sideloaded onto the e-reader without having to plug it into a computer. Some users received error messages telling them “the file could not be transferred due to a service error,” while other users in the thread were still seeing issues with the service earlier this week.
