Now available to people receiving Medicare receive passAmazon Pharmacy’s subscription service that offers Prime members access to generic medications for an extra $5 per month, Amazon announced on tuesday.
While RxPass has been up and running for more than a year and is available in most U.S. states, people receiving Medicare couldn’t use the service before today. People on Medicaid still can’t use RxPass.
RxPass is just one of Amazon’s initiatives in the healthcare and services space to save people money on high drug costs. Other Amazon Health efforts include Automatic coupons This feature applies discounts directly to the purchase of certain medications, including insulin, and provides Prime members with discounts on One Medical, a telemedicine service.
If you’re interested in RxPass as an option to potentially save money on prescription drugs, here’s what you need to know.
What is RxPass?
RxPass is a $5 per month subscription service that provides unlimited access to medications for which you have a prescription. The medications offered by RxPass include more than 50 medications that treat a variety of health conditions, including high blood pressure, dementia, hair loss, menopause, mental health, and skin conditions and more.
If you sign up for RxPass, you’ll pay an additional $5 monthly service fee on top of your fee Premium Membership Fee ($15 per month). You’ll then have unlimited access to available medications at no additional cost, with free shipping.
Am I eligible for RxPass?
Before starting the Amazon RxPass sign-up process, it’s a good idea to understand the requirements to join:
- You must have an existing prescription for the medication. RxPass can’t help you get a prescription, so you must already have a prescription from your doctor to transfer to Amazon.
- You must have an Amazon Prime membership. Before registering for RxPass, you need to have Premium Membership. Currently, Prime membership costs $15 per month or $139 per year. If you’re a student, you can get Prime for $7 per month or $69 per year.
- You must not receive benefits from Medicaid. Although the service is now available to people enrolled in Medicare, people with Medicare State-funded insurance, including Medicaid This service is currently unavailable to CHIP.
- You must live in an eligible state. Currently, RxPass cannot ship medications to California, Minnesota, Texas, or Washington. However, you can still purchase medications through: Amazon Pharmacy in those states.

How to register for RxPass
If you meet all the requirements, go to Amazon Pharmacy RxPass Page (using the Amazon website or app) on your computer, phone, or tablet. From there you’ll see prompts to sign up for Amazon Prime if you don’t have an account yet. If you log into Prime and go to the Amazon Pharmacy for RxPass page, you may see a button that says “Get started with RxPass”.
The RxPass registration process requires you to answer some qualification questions and enter information such as your name and address, account PIN, and payment method for your monthly subscription fee.
When finished, click Confirm receipt of password subscription button to register.
How to add your medications to RxPass
Now that you’ve signed up for RxPass, you can start building your health profile. You’ll be asked what medications and vitamins you’re currently taking, if you have any allergies, and your existing health conditions. You can also search for doctors who prescribe your medications and add them to your profile.
From there, you can begin adding medications and prescriptions to your account. You can transfer prescriptions to Amazon by sharing instructions with your provider (Amazon provides electronic prescription information for you to copy) or by transferring prescriptions from another pharmacy.
You can add medications by searching and finding them on Amazon Pharmacy Contained in the RxPass tag. Enter the name of the medication and select the form, strength, frequency, and amount supplied.
Amazon needs to confirm that all prescriptions are valid, so you may have to wait a little before ordering anything.
How to cancel an RxPass subscription
You can easily cancel your RxPass subscription through Amazon, and you’ll still be able to use it for the entire month you paid for it. After each month ends, you will no longer be charged. However, please note that if you purchased a 60-day supply of your medication using RxPass, your subscription cannot be canceled until the 60-day supply is used up. If you plan to just test RxPass, start with a shorter supply so you can cancel early.
Additionally, canceling your Prime subscription will automatically cancel your RxPass.
