Jacqueline Stewart is resigning from her post to lead the Academy’s Museum of Motion Pictures and returning to the University of Chicago. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Wednesday that academy museum veteran Amy Homma will succeed her as director and dean.
Stewart, a noted film scholar and host of Turner Classic Movies, served as chief artistic and programming officer from 2020 to 2022, when she became the museum’s leader, helping guide the Academy Museum through its opening stage. During her tenure, she helped bilingualize the Neue Galerie and oversaw the opening of numerous exhibitions, including one on black cinema between 1989 and 1971.

Honma has worked at the Los Angeles-based museum for five years, most recently as chief audience officer.
The Motion Picture Academy, the organization behind the Academy Awards, also announced a number of executive promotions to unite teams within the Academy, including foundations, museums and the Academy Awards. In May, the film academy launched a $500 million fundraising campaign for the 100th Academy Awards in 2028.
“As the Academy grows, we are bringing teams together to create a greater sense of shared purpose across the organization,” Academy CEO Bill Cramer said in a statement.
