Andy Murray could face world number one Novak Djokovic in the second round of this week’s Geneva Open if he beats German Yannick Hanfmann on Monday.
Djokovic suffered a shock defeat to Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo at Inter Milan last week and will try to get back on track in Geneva, making his competitive debut.
If he plays against Murray, this will be the 37th meeting between the two, with the Serbian leading 25-11.
Djokovic leads the charge in Geneva, where he will be competing for his 99th Tour-level title, with two-time champion Casper Ruud also taking part. Third-seeded Taylor Fritz and fourth-seeded Ben Shelton also competed.
Rudd will face Australian Rinki Hijikata or a qualifier. The Norwegian has a 9-1 record in ATP 250 events, losing to Nicolas Jarry in the quarterfinals last year.
Third-seeded Fritz will start his match against fellow American Alex Michelson or a qualifier.
Another American, fourth-seeded Shelton, will face Flavio Coboli or Aslan Karatsev in the second round.
There will be a first-round showdown between sixth seeds Talon Grixpoor and Christopher Eubanks.
The Dutchman is the first seeded opponent Djokovic is likely to face in the quarterfinals.
Third seed Fritz and eighth seed Jack Draper will face Tomas Machac in the first round, who are also in the Serbian half of the draw.
The Geneva Open has become the most prestigious ATP 250 event in history, attracting 11 of the top 50 players in the world.
