(Reuters) – Facebook parent Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: ) has discussed integrating its generative artificial intelligence models into Apple Inc (NASDAQ: ), the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday. In the recently released iPhone artificial intelligence system.
The move comes as Apple plans to add technology from other artificial intelligence companies to its devices, amid reports that the company is discussing a potential partnership with longtime search partner Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ: NASDAQ: ) Google.
The iPhone maker is also expected to discuss partnerships with other AI companies in different regions, including China, where the Microsoft-backed OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT is banned.
Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has been in discussions with Apple to introduce its generative artificial intelligence into Apple Intelligence, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal citing people familiar with the matter.
Apple, Meta and Anthropic did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside business hours.
The discussions have not yet been finalized and may fail, according to the Wall Street Journal, which added that a deal with Apple would help the artificial intelligence company gain wider product distribution.
The report said the size of the potential windfall revenue was unclear, but the talks involved the artificial intelligence company selling premium subscriptions to its service through Apple Intelligence.
Artificial intelligence search startup Perplexity has also been in discussions with Apple to bring its generative artificial intelligence technology to Apple Intelligence, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters.
