apple The company said on Wednesday it plans to open its first store in Malaysia next month, underscoring its further push into Asia beyond China.
The store will be located in The Exchange TRX shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.
Apple said it will open at 10 a.m. local time on June 22.
Apple’s move to open stores in Malaysia continues its push to expand sales in Asia outside of China, where it has struggled recently due to growing competition from local manufacturers, especially Huawei.
Last year, Apple opened its first store in India, a key manufacturing hub for iPhones that the Cupertino giant hopes will be a major driver of future sales.
Apple does not make iPhones in Malaysia, but it makes some Mac models locally.
Apple has opened stores in other Asian regions, including Singapore and Thailand.
In much of Southeast Asia, Apple is competing with Chinese companies Millet and Oppo, as well as its biggest rival Samsung.
