For those Apple Watch owners who are envious of the Apple Watch Ultra’s screen, here’s some potentially good news: the Apple Watch Series 10 – may come with the same size screen as the company’s 49mm outdoor watch. According to a new report from Mark Gurman, this is in addition to other possible improvements, such as thinner casings and new chips, that could “lay the foundation for some future AI enhancements.” Open Bloomberg Newsletter.
The screen rumor appears to support last month’s CAD renders, which showed a Series 10 watch with a 2-inch display. Gurman says — and the renderings seem to indicate — that the watch won’t have any major design changes. I’d put this part of the rumor in the “good” column if it meant no magnetic strap attachments or something – like many people, I’ve accumulated a lot of straps over the years that I’d like to keep if I ever decide to upgrade , please use them.
As for new sensors, things seem even more unclear, with Gurman saying Apple is working on two big health sensor updates it has planned. The company has reportedly not yet been able to match the reliability of its rumored blood pressure monitors, writing that the inability to use its banned blood oxygen sensors is hampering its efforts to increase sleep apnea testing.
Apple reportedly plans to launch a cheaper version of the Apple Watch SE, bringing its pricing in line with Samsung’s $199 Galaxy Watch FE. Apparently, one way to achieve this is to use a hard plastic case. This would certainly make the watch cheaper and perhaps lighter – I can think of at least one other Apple product that would benefit from a similar decision! (Vision Pro. I’m talking about Vision Pro.)
Ultimately, Gurman said the company plans to release the Watch Ultra 3, but don’t expect big visual changes. It will reportedly use the new chip that powers the Series 10.
