The undisputed light heavyweight world title fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol has been postponed after Beterbiev ruptured his meniscus in training.
WBC, IBF and WBO champion Beterbiev was scheduled to face WBA belt holder Bivol in a winner-take-all showdown on Saturday, June 1, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The fight will headline a stacked bill with Deontay Wilder vs. Zhilei Zhang and Filip Hrgovic vs. Daniel Dubois ).
The remainder of the card is expected to continue, with Beterbiev and Bivol scheduled to meet before the end of the year.
Beterbiev is the only boxing world champion with a perfect 100% knockout rate, having stopped all 20 of his opponents, most recently defeating Callum Smith via seventh-round TKO.
He has also previously shared the ring with Anthony Yarde, stopping the Londoner in the eighth round at an annual event in January 2023.
Bivol, who defeated Lyndon Arthur by unanimous decision in Riyadh in December, has gone on to an undefeated career of 22-0, with 11 of those wins coming via knockout.
The 33-year-old defeated Canelo Alvarez via unanimous decision in May 2022, defeating the Mexican great.
The exciting matchup between Beterbiev’s ferocious knockout ability and Bivol’s elite technical ability is fascinating to watch.
