Legendary filmmaker Oliver Stone is speaking out about Democrats’ use of “laws” against former President Donald Trump.
Law refers to the use of legal action to exhaust opponents mentally and financially.
Stone spoke to Variety about the 2024 presidential campaign at the Cannes Film Festival, where he was premiering his new documentary “Lula,” about Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva Watt’s story.
“The accusations on both sides of the Trump-Biden election are pretty crazy — that Biden is corrupt and Trump is corrupt,” Stone told the magazine.
“This is a new form of warfare. This is called law. This is what they are using against Trump. I think there are interesting parallels in the United States and around the world where you see this behavior. [Trump’s] Tried four times, some of the charges, whether you were with him or against him, were minor.
Stone told Variety that he is still not a fan of Trump and that “corruption is the norm in human history.”
“Corruption is a way of life,” Stone explains. “This goes back to the Greeks, the Romans, and the Babylonians before that, and there’s been corruption throughout history, so let’s not be optimistic and think we’re ‘clean America’ and we’re better than everyone else. That’s bullshit.
The Academy Award winner blames corruption in politics.
“If you are poor or middle class, it is very difficult to run for office in the United States unless you have money and corporate sponsorship. In the United States, money controls politics. If you go to European countries, you will find that their elections are very coercive. The cost of elections in the UK is very low, or so it was until recently. In France they have electoral rules. Let’s get the money out of politics.
