Political coverage:
Former first lady Melania Trump’s office issued a statement on Friday saying, “While Barron is honored to have been selected as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declined to participate due to previous commitments.”
The youngest Trump will graduate next Friday from Oxbridge College in West Palm Beach, Florida. The former president took a day off from his hush-money criminal trial in New York to attend.
A Trump campaign official previously told POLITICO that Barron is “very interested in the political process of our country.”
Barron Trump may be interested in the political process, but he doesn’t seem interested in spending four days of his summer supporting his father. None of this is surprising. Even young Barron understood the poor image of being the face of his father, a likely convicted felon.
Ivanka Trump is planning a return to her father and the campaign, but she won’t appear until after her criminal trial.
The Trump family is nothing but transactional.
The story that Barron Trump would become a delegate to the Republican National Committee always sounded so out of character for the Trump family. Of course, by the time the convention gets underway, both Trumps will be speaking at the Republican convention, but the fact that Trump can’t even get his youngest son to be his delegate highlights the dumpster-fire nature of his third convention .
