An Orange County driver hit three children and two adults who were riding bicycles Sunday night and then fled the scene, authorities said.
Orange County Fire Chief Greg Barta said the suspected hit-and-run incident occurred at Haster Street and Lamp in Garden Grove around 7:30 p.m. Near Lampson Avenue.
According to KCAL aerial footage of the scene, adults and children were riding bicycles, and a trailer was attached to one of the bicycles, with at least some children being towed away.
It’s unclear what caused the collision. Garden Grove Police Sgt. said the driver ran away but was later taken into custody by police. Nick Jensen. The driver, an adult male, was not identified and it was unclear late Sunday whether he had been formally charged.
One child was taken to a local trauma center in critical condition, Barta said. Two children and two adults were taken to hospital in stable condition, he said.
Jensen said Garden Grove police traffic investigators arrived at the scene Sunday night to investigate what led to the collision. “The investigation is ongoing,” he said.
