What the Biden administration thinks about housing
A senior administration official told PoliticusUSA during a call with reporters:
Today, we’re announcing a new government-wide effort to repurpose federal lands and other properties to build more affordable housing. This is an important part of our agenda. The federal government is the largest landowner in the country, and some of its lands are currently underutilized or completely unutilized. The president asked federal agencies from the Department of the Interior to the Department of Defense to look for opportunities to repurpose surplus properties to create more affordable housing.
We know this is a critical national need, which is why agencies are making it a priority. I do want to say that agencies have taken action, and I’m pleased to announce that today, the Bureau of Land Management announced an upcoming sale under the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Action Plan, the largest sale ever under the program, which will create hundreds of affordable housing for sale and rent. The BLM is currently working with local governments in Southern Nevada and has identified an additional 562 acres of land suitable for housing, which could support the construction of an additional 15,000 or more affordable housing units in Southern Nevada.
The federal government is the largest landowner in the country, and some of its land is currently underutilized or underutilized, and as I said, the president is asking federal agencies to address that issue. As I noted, BLM is currently working with local governments in Southern Nevada to provide additional support, and the Biden-Harris Administration is calling on state and local governments and other public entities to follow our lead and consider what they have The land may be suitable for residential development. The opportunities are huge.
New analysis released today estimates the development potential of underutilized state and local government land planned near transit and transit locations to be approximately 1.9 million units. Additionally, tomorrow, HUD will announce $325 million in “Choice Communities” implementation grants to provide funding to communities across the country to build more homes and revitalize underserved neighborhoods. The funds will go to Choice Neighborhoods. The funding will go toward the largest local program in the federal government. Choose a community. The Chosen Communities program transforms communities across the country through annual grants. HUD is seeking to expand the program’s reach to as many communities as possible. So we’re excited about the work that’s already underway, and the private and public sectors are stepping up. We’re really moving forward with this, which is why the President is excited about these announcements tomorrow in select communities in Las Vegas.
These actions are taken when the president cares about the problems of ordinary people. How does Donald Trump feel about housing costs in comparison? Trump spent much of his time promising to deport people, but he never talked about the real issues that make life difficult for millions of Americans.
If voters could cut through the media nonsense and get to know the candidates, they would know that Joe Biden is the only one who cares and will do his best to solve their problems.
