The Biden campaign blasted Trump for holding an outreach event for black people, which they called a “clearly hollow event in front of a white audience.”
The Biden campaign responded to Trump’s attempts to appeal to black voters in a statement:
True to form, Donald Trump launched his long-awaited “Black Americans for Trump” coalition in front of an empty white audience — accompanied, naturally, by a stream of lies and misinformation about his failing record on Black Americans.
Jasmine Harris, director of Black Media for Biden-Harris 2024, said, “Donald Trump thinks the fact that he has ‘many black friends’ excuses a lifetime of slandering and disrespecting black Americans, but Black voters knew better — and Trump’s last-minute attempts at Black “outreach” didn’t fool anyone. Black voters have not forgotten the man who entered public life calling for the death penalty for the innocent Central Park Five and entered political life spreading racist conspiracy theories about Barack Obama. We haven’t forgotten that black unemployment and uninsured rates soared during Trump’s time in the White House. We certainly haven’t forgotten that Trump has repeatedly courted white supremacists and demonized the Black community for his own political gain — because that’s exactly what he will do if he wins a second term. Black voters sent Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House in 2020, and they are poised to make Donald Trump a two-term loser in 2024.
Trump’s campaign allegedly brought in white people to fill seats in his black outreach.
Republicans have been trying to promote a man with a history of racism as someone who should appeal to black voters. Trump has been accused of housing discrimination for refusing to rent to black people. Donald Trump is not a man who prioritizes the interests of the American people.
Trump pretends to have the support of black voters. Joe Biden’s biggest worry shouldn’t be that black voters will switch to Trump, but that they will stay if the president doesn’t engage in significant direct outreach and show that he is the candidate who best represents their interests over the next four years. The family doesn’t vote.
