“Now” host Bill Maher rejected a blackout of Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s recent graduation speech, saying he didn’t understand “what a major crime is.”
Butek sparked a political firestorm on the left this week with remarks he made at a graduation ceremony at Benedictine College, a private Catholic school.
During a panel discussion Friday night, Maher mocked how his critics painted him as “the greatest monster in history.”

“I can’t express how unlike me this guy is,” Maher said during Friday’s panel discussion. “He was religious. He loved marriage. He loved children…and he is now the greatest monster in history.”
“Again, I don’t quite agree with this guy, but I don’t get it. He said… ‘Some of you might go on to have successful careers in the world.’ Well, that seems pretty modern,” But I would venture to guess that most of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into the world. ” I don’t understand what mortal sin is, I really don’t.

“I think that’s part of the problem with the left, and that’s true of a lot of people in this country. Like he said, some of you may go on to have successful careers leading, but a lot of you are excited about this. ——Everyone was like this in the past, can’t it be an option now? Maher continued.
“I think they feel bullied, like there’s only one way to be a good person and that’s to get an advanced degree from a factory like Harvard.”

The HBO host later noted the irony of the selective outrage over Butker’s comments.
