HBO host Bill Maher said on his show Friday that he has “no problem” with abortion, despite opponents arguing that abortion is “murder,” which he doesn’t really dispute.
That’s not how most pro-life advocates frame the debate, but Maher does.
His reasoning? There are already 8 billion people on the planet.

“They thought it was murder.” It’s kind of like’
Mach’s real time Guests include British author and journalist Gillian Tett and British critic Piers Morgan.
Maher told them and his audience that those who oppose abortion are “somewhat” right about the fact that abortion is “murder.”
But then the host explained why he was “ok” with it.
“None of you believe this was murder,” Maher said. “You know, that’s why I don’t understand the 15-week thing. Or Trump’s plan is, ‘Let’s leave it to the states.’ ” You mean it’s okay to kill babies in some states?
He continued, “Like, I can respect authoritarian positions. I really can. I scold the left when they say, ‘Oh, you know what, they just hate women and hate people who aren’t pro-life.’ Pro-life People, they don’t hate women. They just make it up. It’s true.

Maher has ‘no problem’ with murder because it’s population control
Maher explained why he was satisfied with this particular “murder,” as he described it.
He also seemed to favor it as a method of population control.
“I’m happy with it. I am,” Maher said. “I, I mean, there are eight billion people in the world. I’m sorry, you’re not going to be missed. That’s where I stand on it.
Maher’s comments come as 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump recently announced on his “Truth Social” social media platform that he believes the responsibility for regulating abortion should rest with the states. The former president also said IVF treatments should remain accessible.
Trump has previously criticized his party’s “poor” handling of the abortion issue during the 2022 midterm elections and said the losses suffered by various Republican candidates in that cycle were “not my fault.”
