After a vote by 211 members of FIFA, Brazil will host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, ultimately choosing South America to bid instead of the joint bid of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
They will become the first South American team to host the women’s final, having previously hosted the men’s final twice, in 1950 and 2014.
This is the first time that all FIFA member associations have had the opportunity to have their say on the hosting of the women’s tournament.
Before that, it was decided by the FIFA Council, the governing body’s decision-making committee.
England finished runners-up in the previous tournament held in Australia and New Zealand in 2023, but lost 0-1 to Spain in the final.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “Congratulations to the Brazilian team. We will host the best World Cup in Brazil.
“A big thank you to BNG for the bid, they were great.”
The decision arguably strengthens Britain’s prospects of bidding to host the World Cup at some stage in the 2030s.
The United States and Mexico, which withdrew from the 2027 competition to focus on the 2031 hosting rights, will be strong favorites regardless of any opposition.
But by 2035, it will be 16 years since Europe last hosted a final – France in 2019.
