Sheila Jackson Lee, the long-serving Democratic congresswoman from Texas, has died at the age of 74.
Her family released the following statement:
Today, it is with incredible sadness for our loss and deep gratitude for the life she shared with us that we announce the death of U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas’ 18th Congressional District.
She is a staunch advocate of the people, and people affectionately call her “the people’s advocate.”
For more than 30 years, she was given the title “Congresswoman” by her constituents for her service to her constituents in virtually every corner of their lives.
As a local, national and international humanitarian, she is recognized worldwide for her courageous fight for racial justice, criminal justice and human rights, especially for women and children.
From establishing the Juneteenth federal holiday to reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, her legislative victories have impacted millions. However, her greatest influence was as our beloved wife, sister, mother and babe (grandmother). She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire all who believe in freedom, justice, and democracy. God bless you Congresswoman and God bless the United States of America.

Gateway Pundit reported in June that Jackson Lee had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
In a statement released to the public, Jackson Lee wrote:
“My faith in God, love for humanity, and commitment to public service have defined my adult life. As a member of Congress, I am honored to be one of the leaders in the fight for justice and equality for all; especially The vulnerable and the dispossessed. Today, my battle is more personal, but I will face it with the same conviction and the same courage.
“My doctor has diagnosed me with pancreatic cancer. I am currently undergoing treatment to fight this disease, which affects tens of thousands of Americans each year.
“I trust my doctors have the best plan for my specific disease. The road ahead will not be easy, but I trust God to strengthen me.
“To the voters of the 18th Congressional District: It has been one of my greatest honors to serve as your representative in Congress for 30 years. Your hopes and desires inspire me every day to work for our community. As I work through my treatment, I There may be occasional absences from Congress, but rest assured that my office will continue to provide the important constituent services you deserve and expect.
“I am committed to working with our congressional leadership, including Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the Speaker of the House, to serve this country and attend the vote on legislation critical to the prosperity and security of the American people. By By the grace of God, I will regain my strength soon.
