Cadillac has unveiled a new convertible electric concept that’s longer than some SUVs, has a huge pillar-mounted infotainment screen, and a refrigerator in the back seat to keep you cool in the summer.
Called the Sollei, it’s a new electric car concept that looks like a convertible version of Cadillac’s bespoke “Celestiq” – the automaker’s answer to exclusive luxury cars like Rolls-Royce. The new car, which transforms a $340,000 full-size electric sedan into a “Manila Cream” coupe, attempts to evoke the feeling of sunlight through light patterns emanating from the wood paneling at the center of each seat and on the back of the seats.
Sollei was on display at the Cadillac House in Warren Vanderbilt, Miss., where high-end customers go to select leather and other materials when buying a hand-built Celestiq. However, Sollei takes a different, more sustainable approach to materials, such as using biodegradable mushroom mycelium instead of leather. However, there are still leather upholstery accessories designed specifically for the car, including Birdsong kits and leather-bound journals that match the color of the car.
It’s obvious that the Sollei is based on the Celestiq, as it shares a similar 55-inch infotainment screen cluster and animated LED look with the Celestiq. In the full walk-around video, Auto Buyer’s Guide says the Sollei “harkens back to Cadillac’s origins as a purveyor of ultra-luxury vehicles.” Cadillac sees the Sollei as a vehicle that “pushes the boundaries of future custom commissioning,” although it has no plans to sell the concept like the Celestiq.
