Shortly after winning the NBA championship, Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzula wore a jersey that read “But first…let me thank God.”
Mazzula isn’t shy about sharing his faith, and immediately after coaching the Celtics to a 106-88 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, he took off his coaching shirt to reveal a God First T-shirt underneath.

As Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla and his players celebrated winning the franchise’s 18th championship on Monday night, he wore a shirt that read, “But first let me thank God”.
Mazzula, who often talks about his Christian faith, immediately offered praise after the Celtics’ 18-point victory in Game 5 in Boston. The 35-year-old head coach appeared fully prepared as he wore a black crewneck sweater and a shirt that read “But first let me thank God” underneath for key games throughout the series.
Mazzula went viral during a press conference before the Celtics won Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
During the press conference, Mazzula was asked how he felt about being the first Black coach since 1975 to face another Black coach in the NBA Finals.
In response, Mazzula shared, “I wonder how many of these are Christian coaches?”
