Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy recently wrote an opinion column critical of transgender athletes, and a USA Today-owned newspaper removed the article without even notifying Kennedy.
It’s reminiscent of a 2020 op-ed written by Republican Sen. Tom Cotton for the New York Times that was censored after angering the paper’s staff. Cotton suggested using the military to control the Summer of Love riots.
Isn’t it interesting how this censorship always seems to go in one direction?
Fox News:
USA Today newspaper quietly removed Republican senator’s op-ed about transgender athletes without telling him
Several Louisiana newspapers owned by Gannett’s USA TODAY network quietly removed an op-ed about transgender athletes written by Louisiana Republican Sen. John F. Kennedy without notifying him.
Communications reviewed by Fox News Digital show the Republican was told that a column he wrote criticizing biological males for participating in women’s sports contained “inflammatory” remarks that did not meet the company’s standards.
Michael McCarter, Gannett Opinion Editor and Vice President of Standards and Ethics, supported the decision to remove Kennedy’s article.
“The opinion team at the USA TODAY Network is committed to providing local, timely, relevant and diverse opinion. We recognize the importance of sharing diverse perspectives and the important role we play in convening dialogue. Submitted by Senator John F. Kennedy The opinion column did not comply with our code of ethics, which states that we will treat others with respect. After further review, our editorial team removed the column from our website. Senator Kennedy was given the opportunity to revise his language rather than his opinion. Meets our standards,” McCarter told Fox News Digital.
Kennedy commented:
“They think they are the speech police. They are obsessed with certainty and virtue and think they are our moral teachers. This attitude is why many Americans have lost faith in the media. The media can only regain trust by returning to neutrality instead of propaganda. .
Apparently USA Today thinks they are the speech police.
The media can only regain trust by returning to neutrality rather than advocacy.

Do you think any newspaper in the country would dare delete a column by a senator like Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders, no matter what it says?
No chance.
