The Supreme Court’s Republican majority does appear to have contempt for America’s founding principles. Today, for example, Chief Justice Roberts appears to have pronounced the end of the Department of Justice’s independence.

If you’re reading this, that means you probably follow politics enough to hear the right-wing’s scathing outrage at the Justice Department, even as you’re aware of the various investigations into Donald Trump and his criminal associates.
“Just a reminder, Fox News was outraged in 2019 and 2020 over Obama’s knowledge of ongoing investigations into Trump, Flynn, and others in 2016,” Bradley Moss noted.
But now they have ordered an end to the separation of these powers. The president can now even discuss potential investigations and prosecutions with the attorney general.
It’s as if this court is completing its work on Project 2025 ahead of schedule. “Project 2025” is the result of the joint efforts of the Heritage Foundation and a team of Trump supporters to prepare for the dismantling of the US government and give Trump final power. Like most felons facing more charges, Donald Trump wants to take control of the Justice Department and FBI.
“Some of Donald Trump’s allies are developing proposals to limit the Justice Department’s independence and turn the nation’s top law enforcement agency into a target for conservatives, nine people involved in the effort told Reuters.”
The only sane response to this is President King Biden appoints Alvin Bragg as attorney general, getting rid of six Republican Supreme Court justices and replacing them with Barack Obama, Merrick Garland, Fannie Willis, Liz Cheney and more A person full of love.
But I worry that one of the inherent characteristics of Democrats is their reluctance to use the power given to them by the voters, let alone the power that the president should not have, but this deeply corrupt court gave that power to the man who is now essentially a king. I have written against the expansion of presidential powers under a Democratic president precisely because these powers are so easily abused and absolute power absolutely corrupts.
But considering Republicans will be choosing King in the next election, the stakes are clear. King Trump or King Biden?
After all, Trump is the man who reportedly wants to execute Mark Milley and has consistently expressed a preference for killing those who disobey him.
Who will be the first king of the United States? Make wise choices.
