To kick off the summer gaming festival, E3 successor Geoff Keighley showed off a slew of gameplay trailers for games we’ve heard about and others making their debuts.
While Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have all tended to hold their own shows, with E3 gone, the Summer Games Festival has become the big multi-platform launch show in the middle of the year. This year, we saw a ton of games big and small during the two-hour showcase.
From big games like Civilization VII and Black Myth: Wukong, to the VR game Batman: Shadow of Arkham, to the Horizon adventure game created by LEGO and a beautiful new game from the makers of Gris The trailer we saw for the game was interesting, but not entertaining. Here are our top five favorites:

For those who want more, here are the biggest trailers we saw at the showcase – some of them teasers, others showing off gameplay, and pretty much every one of them revealed something we Something never seen before.
Civilization 7
Trailer for Civilization VII, the next great civilization-building game coming to PC and consoles in 2025. Hints at the content, but Sid Meier himself said in the Zoom video that we’ll get a full gameplay reveal later this summer.
LEGO Horizon Adventure
LEGO’s latest take on the popular story is LEGO Horizon Adventures, adapting the world of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West in LEGO’s cute and light-hearted aesthetic (as well as online and couch co-op). The game launches on PS5, Switch, and PC during the 2024 holiday season.
Alan Wake II DLC
Alan Wake II is one of the best games of 2023, with Remedy Studios promising upcoming DLC and then unexpectedly dropping the first of two promised expansions at the Summer Games Festival, which will be Available on June 8th.Ross, the waiter (who appeared in the original Alan Wake), and Jesse Faden, the director of the Federal Bureau of Control, who made his debut in Control
According to IGN, Alan Wake II’s Night Springs DLC is included in the expansion pass for the deluxe edition of the game, or standard edition owners can upgrade to the deluxe edition for $20.

While the trailer doesn’t give us much information, it once again gives us the vibe of a game we won’t have to wait too long to see: the game will be released on PS5 and PC on August 20, 2024.
metaphor reimagined
We’ve got another trailer for Metaphor ReFantazio from the makers of the Persona games. The trailer focuses on the game’s core features: Archetypes – like characters, they embody human emotions such as fear and anxiety, gain experience and become stronger. The game is now available for pre-order and will launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on October 11th.
Batman Shadow of Arkham
The next Batman game, Shadow of the Arkham, has released a trailer, previewing the tone and enemies (including the mysterious Rat King) of the new VR game, which will be released in the fall of 2024 for Meta Quest 3 .
harry potter quidditch champion
Following the success of Hogwarts Legacy, another game in the Harry Potter universe is about to launch, this time featuring a broomstick-based Quidditch game. It will launch on PS5, Xbox One X/S, PC and Switch on September 3rd.
first descendant
First Descendant, unveiled at last week’s State of Play, is a looter-shooter game that will be released on July 2 for PS5, Xbox One X/S, and PC. The trailer has guns, grenades, acrobatics, and cool scenes, but almost nothing looks like straight-up gameplay.
Star Wars Desperados
The latest trailer for Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft’s heist-themed game full of villains and smugglers set to launch in August 2024, shows off more gameplay and story content. Launched on March 30th.
Cutting head
Split Head’s disgusting and horrifying reveal makes even more sense when you know it comes from the creator of Silent Hill. The game is expected to be released on November 8, 2024.
Dune: Awakening
We still know very little about Dune: Awakening, a game set in the world of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic and dominated by Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation. While we didn’t see any gameplay, Dune Awakening’s trailer teased the game’s focus: Paul, the heir to the Atreides, using his Kwisatz Haderach’s visionary abilities to examine what might be possible.
No more room in hell 2
No More Room In Hell 2 looks like the successor to cooperative multiplayer zombie shooters like Left 4 Dead. The trailer shows survivors fighting their way through hordes of enemies before falling violently. The game features a large map, eight-player cooperative mode, and permadeath mode. The game will be available for early access this Halloween.
neva river
From the creators of the visually stunning platformer Gris comes Neva, a gorgeous pastoral adventure starring a girl and her wolf. It looks to have similar gameplay to Gris: a 2D side-scroller with gorgeous foreground and background visuals. Neva will be launched later in 2024.
skate
It’s been four years since Skate 4 was announced at E3, and now it’s finally making its reappearance at Summer Game Fest (now simply called “Skate”). The trailer reveals the current state of St. Vanstedt, a city overrun by skaters as their corporate overlords, M-Corp, have fallen out of favor.
While a release date has not yet been announced, console playtests will open in the fall of 2024.
