Summer is coming, but real estate companies aren’t letting up on their hiring efforts: This week, Coldwell Banker revealed it has hired a high-performing Compass agent in California’s Bay Area.
Vicky Yu previously worked in Compass’ Burlingame office, but is now affiliated with Coldwell Banker’s Redwood City-San Carlos office. A statement from Coldwell Banker described Yu as a high-performing employee and “one of the region’s leading real estate agents,” adding that she “closed more than $63 million in real estate sales through 29 transactions in 2023 ”. She earned more than $350 million during her career, the statement said.
“I’m excited to do business with Coldwell Banker Realty,” Yu said in a statement, “as they offer innovative technology, a strong global network and luxury projects with a brand that resonates with consumers.”
According to her LinkedIn profile, Yu began her career in accounting and has worked at Ernst & Young and Altera. After switching to real estate, she worked at Home Realty Yu and Intero Real Estate Services.
Yu’s move to Coldwell Banker comes as brokerages continue to compete for top talent. While competition has been the name of the game in the industry for years, the market slowdown of the past two and a half years has put greater pressure on brokerages to specifically pursue high performers with a track record of closing deals during downturns — — Or, in other words, someone like Yu.
Coldwell Banker and Compass, in particular, seem to have some kind of low-key competition in this area. In April, just like today, Coldwell Banker celebrated poaching a top agent from Compass. Meanwhile, Compass also claimed a recruiting win over Coldwell Banker.
While Coldwell Banker and Compass have been particularly aggressive in their recruiting efforts, the trend toward top agents isn’t limited to those two companies. In fact, it has been one of the most defining stories in the real estate industry over the past few years.
For Yu’s part, Coldwell Banker leadership celebrated her joining the company. Coldwell Banker regional president Jennifer Lind said in a statement that Yu is “a well-respected broker in the Bay Area.”
“Coldwell Banker’s reach, global footprint and strong local leadership, combined with Vicky’s exceptional service to clients, create the perfect partnership and one we are proud to be a part of,” continued Lind.
Bryce Cook, managing broker of the Redwood City-San Carlos office, added in the statement, “Market-leading agents like Vicky come to Coldwell Banker to support their growth.”
“Our size and scale provide broad referral opportunities, comprehensive listing support products and a trusted brand name, which enables agents to successfully close more deals,” Cook said.
