But these objects, too, were taken away by colonists and remain on display in museum galleries far from home.
Over the past few years, museums around the world have been thinking about the looted treasures they preserve and benefit from.
Now, a small museum in Nashville, Tennessee, is returning ancient objects unearthed in Mexico.
