A would-be assassin targeted former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, just after 6 p.m. Saturday.
Trump and two others were injured and one person was killed when the Secret Service shot and killed the alleged shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.
Crooks is a registered Republican but donated $15 to the Progressive PAC in 2021.
For the first time in decades, a presidential candidate is the target of an assassination plot. How will Saturday’s events affect an already divided America?
Author and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin discusses what history can teach us about this moment.
