Cheese meets cookie dough in this cheesy overnight oats recipe. Not only is this edible cookie dough high in protein, it’s also perfect for breakfast! You’ll wonder how you start your day without this recipe!
My kids loved these Cheesy Cookie Dough Balls that I shared last month. So much so that she kept asking them to have breakfast. I just can’t bring myself to get into the habit of being with her (although I guess they do make a great breakfast) and I feel like I need to come up with a more breakfast-friendly option.
Enter these Cheesy Cookie Dough Overnight Oats. I know it seems weird to mix cottage cheese with oats, but hear me out. Not only does cottage cheese have a very mild flavor, making it perfect for cookie dough, but it’s also high in protein.
As someone who struggles to get enough protein every day, I love using this trick to make my oatmeal more filling. Don’t believe me? I think it’s time for you to find out for yourself.
Why make this recipe?
- High protein content – This Cheesy Cookie Dough Overnight Oats recipe has 18 grams of protein! To put that into perspective, that’s more protein than two large eggs.
- minimal dishes – Everything in one container! Includes easy cleanup.
- No need to cook – Not only does this recipe make a small amount, it doesn’t require you to break out any kitchen utensils.
Required raw materials
- oatmeal—— The base for these overnight oats. Regular oatmeal is ideal. Feel free to purchase gluten-free options if necessary.
- chia seeds – If you only have flaxseed, you can also add ground flaxseed. This helps absorb the liquid and makes the overnight oats deliciously thick.
- maple syrup – Used in sweeteners. If you like your cookie dough overnight oats less sweet, you can reduce this amount
- Vanilla Almond Milk – or other plant-based or non-dairy milks.
- cottage cheese – The cheese in overnight oats is delicious. You can buy any kind you can find, but I prefer full fat with small curds.
- Vanilla extract – Don’t skip this! This helps the cookie dough taste.
- almond butter – This helps enhance the flavor of the cookie dough, but also adds some nice fat to help balance your diet.
- chocolate chips – I love using Enjoy Life Mini Chocolate Chips.

Make a funfetti version – Add powdered sugar or use powdered sugar instead of chocolate chips to make Funfetti Cookie Dough!
Use honey instead of maple syrup – If you don’t have maple syrup on hand, honey is a perfect substitute for maple syrup.
Use yogurt instead of cheese – The flavor won’t be exactly the same, but in a pinch you can substitute yogurt for the cheese.
Use peanut butter instead of almond butter – The peanut cookie version uses peanut butter instead of almond butter!
