Donald Trump did what was expected in a campaign statement and said he would not commit to a debate with Kamala Harris until after the Democratic National Convention.
Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement that “given the ongoing political confusion surrounding crooked Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, general election debate details cannot be finalized until the Democratic Party formally decides on the nominee.” OK. Many in the Democratic Party — namely, Barack Obama — strongly believe Kamala Harris is a Marxist liar who can’t beat President Trump, and they’re still waiting for “better ” candidate. Therefore, setting things up with Harris would be inappropriate because Democrats could still change their minds.
Trump has been signaling for days that he did not want the debate to take place on ABC News. Trump recently said he agreed to debate Harris but would not debate the vice president on ABC. Throughout the 2o24 campaign, Trump refused to debate anyone younger than him. Trump avoids debate with Nikki Haley. Trump refuses to debate Ron DeSantis. The former president has not debated someone younger than him since the 2016 campaign.
Donald Trump seems afraid of being seen on stage with someone younger, more energetic, and more dynamic than he is.
However, if the polls continue to tilt toward Harris, don’t be surprised if Trump changes his stance on the debate.
