Maryland’s 2026 recruiting class has begun, with three-star defensive back Khmari Bing announcing his commitment to the Terrapins on Monday, becoming Maryland’s first commitment of the cycle.
Bing, who grew up in Washington, D.C., is a Maryland fan and is excited to join the Terrapins in the future. Upon arriving on campus, Bean’s goal is to help Maryland compete at the Big Ten Conference and national level.
Despite being a rookie in the Class of 2026, the St. Francis College (Baltimore, Md.) guard believes now is the right time for him to make a commitment decision.
“What made me commit to Maryland was to make Maryland great again,” Bean told Opponent. “I grew up a Maryland fan, but I ultimately never saw them make it to the national championship. I think my commitment was the right one because I could be on the team and we would make Maryland great again.”
At Maryland, Bean will play under head coach Mike LocksleyDefensive Coordinator/Defensive Line Coach Brian WilliamsAssociate Defensive Coordinator/Associate Defensive Coach/Cornerbacks Coach Azhar Abdul Rahim and the rest of the staff.
As a defensive back, it’s no surprise that Bing developed a strong relationship with Abdur-Rahim, while continuing to build relationships with other coaches as well.
“I’m just getting to know the other coaches, but Coach Azar is the one I’m closest to because when he comes to school to see me, it’s like a bond, and when he comes to my practices, we talk like family. .
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Bing has good size and length for a defensive back. He’s listed by Rivals as a cornerback and will likely end up playing at the college level, but he also has the versatility to play elsewhere. In fact, Maryland’s staff knew it could move him to the secondary if needed.
“I was recruited as a versatile defensive back,” Bean noted. “My playing style is unique – I’m coachable, I have leadership skills and I’m like a dog on the court.”
Bing has not visited Maryland recently, but he has been to College Park in the past and certainly plans to return in the future. On his last trip, he was impressed with the Terps’ facilities.
“The last time I visited Maryland was a year ago,” Bing said. “My favorite part is the indoor soccer facility.”
Bing also received additional scholarship offers from Auburn University, Boston College, Florida State University at Charlotte, Miami University, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Penn State University, University of Tennessee, UCF and Virginia Tech.
Bing had one final message for Terrapins fans that has become a rallying cry for Maryland’s commitment:
“Let go of grandma!”
