DJ LeMahieu hit a game-ending single with one out in the 10th inning and the host New York Yankees kept their momentum going with a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.
LeMahieu gave the Yankees their seventh win in eight games after a rain delay of 1 hour and 49 minutes.
After Trent Grisham sacrificed automatic runner Anthony Volpe to third, the Blue Jays deployed a five-man infield and introduced outfielders. LeMahieu made it 1-1 by hitting Bowden Francis (4-3) to center field and out.
Mark Leiter Jr. (3-4) struck out Alejandro Kirk in the 10th inning to give New York its second win of the season.
LeMahieu’s game-winning goal made up for Clay Holmes’ ninth save loss in 32 chances this season.
In the top of the eighth inning, Grisham reached on an error in center field, Tommy Kahnle walked two batters with one out, and Holmes was called for a five-out save. . Kirk’s sacrifice fly against Holmes tied the game at 3.

After Juan Soto hit his 28th homer to lead off the seventh inning, the Yankees went into the eighth inning 3-2. Soto’s rush to Genesis Cabrera briefly landed on the left center field fence before ricocheting into Toronto’s bullpen.
New York scored two runs in the sixth inning off Ryan Yarbrough before Soto’s home run.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Volpe had singles against Zach Pop in Game 6. The two combined for two steals against Yarbrough before Chisholm scored on Grisham’s grounder. Volpe slid home headfirst on LeMahieu’s subsequent sacrifice fly, tying the game at 2.
Yankees starter Gerrit Cole is back on the mound after missing Tuesday’s game in Philadelphia due to fatigue. He allowed two runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings and struck out four.
Bugg hit an RBI double and Clement had a run-scoring single in the second inning to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead over Cole, who retired 10 of his final 11 batters.
Toronto starter Yariel Rodriguez allowed four hits in 4 2/3 scoreless innings. The rookie right-hander walked first and played fourth.
