A mountain lion killed a family’s pit bull in Los Angeles, California, officials said.
The mountain lion was first sighted around 5 a.m. Saturday near the Oakridge Mobile Home Park off Foothill Blvd. and Glennox Avenue. near Sylmar, Fox 11 reports.
Following the incident, officials issued a “wildlife warning” for the San Fernando Valley, the outlet reported.
A resident named Rey Constante was on his way home when he noticed the mountain lion riding on a gray pit bull with the leash still on.

“A huge mountain lion just killed our neighbor’s dog and I’m worried about the dog’s owner because the dog was still on a leash and the beautiful pit bull is now dead,” Constant wrote on Facebook. Oak Ridge residents, please do not walk your pets at night, this animal is still roaming around unmarked, waiting for its next victim.”
“He looked up and growled at me… and I said ‘Wow’… I was shocked,” he told Fox 11.
A person in another vehicle reportedly honked the horn, scaring the mountain lion away.
The five-year-old dog, Gigi, was recently adopted by the Southern California Bulldog Rescue Group, which is preserving the dog’s remains so they can be turned over to the California Fish and Wildlife Service, Fox 11 reports Conduct an investigation.

“Neighbors of Sylmar – As we know, living in this wonderful community, we share an abundance of wildlife. Coyotes, raccoons, opossums, the occasional bear, and most recently a sizable mountain lion. (Maybe a few of them,” the Sylmar Neighborhood Committee wrote on its website.
In accordance with guidance from the National Park Service, officials urge residents to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves, including not jogging or hiking alone and keeping children close.
If a mountain lion is spotted, residents are told not to approach it, not to run away from it, and not to bend or crouch. The guidance says residents should raise their arms to make themselves appear larger and fight back if attacked.
