Dolly Parton is writing new songs to accompany some of her past hits and co-writing a stage story inspired by her life for a stage musical that she hopes will Coming to Broadway in 2026.
“I wrote a lot of original songs for the show, and I’ve included all your favorite songs. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap, you’ll stomp your feet, this is truly a big opera. Puns and fun ,” she said in a statement.

Parton will team up with Maria S. Schlatter to tell the story. Schlatter won an Emmy for producing Netflix’s “Christmas on the Square,” starring Christine Baranski.

“Hello, I’m Dolly” is the title of Parton’s 1967 debut album, which included the songs “Dumb Blonde” and “Something Fishy”.
Parton went on to become a national treasure, starring in movies, writing books, winning a Grammy, becoming the first country artist to be named MusiCares Person of the Year and donating $1 million to coronavirus research.
With 52 Grammy nominations and 11 wins, she is the second most nominated woman in Grammy history, behind only Beyoncé, who has 79 nominations and 24 wins. The country icon won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award a decade ago.
Parton will have a number of past hits to choose from, including three of her top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 – “9 to 5,” “Here You Come Again” and “Islands in the Stream》. She also has 25 hit country songs such as “Yellow Rose,” “Thinking About Love,” “Tennessee Homesick Blues” and “Jolene.”

This isn’t the first time Parton’s music has been performed on Broadway. In 2009, a stage version of 9 to 5 landed, starring Stephanie J. Bullock, Megan Hilty and Allison Janney, and was included in the 1993 Christmas special Candles, Snow, and Mistletoe Her song “With Bells On”.
Parton’s show will be Broadway’s latest biographies of musicians using their songs, joining Neil Diamond, Alicia Keys, Michael Jackson, Carole King, Gloria and Emilio ·The ranks of recent artists such as Estefan.
She will perform Broadway music alongside pop and rock stars such as Elton John, Cyndi Lauper, The Go-Gos, Sting, Alanis Morissette, Dave Stewart, Edie Brickell, Trey Anastasio, David Byrne, Fatboy Slim and Bono, and The Edge.
Hello, I’m Dolly will be produced by Parton, Adam Speers of ATG Productions and Danny Nozell of CTK Enterprises.
