The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating whether Donald Trump’s recent felony conviction in New York makes him ineligible to hold liquor licenses at three New Jersey golf courses.
A spokesman for the office said Monday that it is reviewing whether Trump’s convictions on 34 felony counts, including hush money payments to porn stars and falsifying business records in an attempt to Hide these crimes.
State law prohibits anyone convicted of “moral turpitude” from holding a liquor license.
A spokesperson for the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, part of the Attorney General’s Office, said in a statement that it is “reviewing the impact of President Trump’s conviction on the above licenses and declines further comment at this time.” send email.
The department said part of the calculation required “a person must be of good character and should conduct the licensed business in a good manner”.
Its manual further details, “The term ‘moral turpitude’, from the perspective of society as a whole, refers to serious crime, often involving elements of dishonesty, fraud or depravity.”
Trump owns golf courses in Bedminster, Colts Neck and Pine Hill, New Jersey, each with a valid liquor license.
He no longer owns any casinos in Atlantic City, where his former company, Trump Entertainment Resorts, once operated three casinos.
Messages sent to Trump’s presidential campaign and the former president’s company, the Trump Organization, were not immediately responded to on Monday.
Trump is scheduled to be sentenced in the New York case on July 11, shortly before he becomes the Republican presidential nominee in the November election.
