He made the offer in the spring and returned to camp in June before making another unofficial visit at the end of July.
Now, as August begins, Aiden Kane has seen enough to commit to the Duke Blue Devils.
The standout guard from McDonough (Ga.) Dutchtown, who has extensive inside and outside experience, made his selection public on Friday. He chose Duke on his own terms over double-digit tenders, most of which came this year.
“First of all, academically, Duke is a top-five program in this area,” Kane told Opponent. “I know Duke is going to help me in my retirement. Football-wise, it’s the top team in the country every year.
“The four times I visited, I was in touch with all the coaches and people. I was able to be myself in front of everyone. Finally, I could see myself competing early! Coach (Manny) Diaz said he thought I am a special leader and captain at Duke.
Diaz’s defensive staff has high hopes for the newest Blue Devil.
“I fit the way they play in the frontcourt, especially for a 6-foot-1, 6-foot-2 guard,” Kane said. “They’re very real. In the sense that they open up to you, there’s no filter, they never lie about anything, they always say, ‘I’m not going to recruit you because when you get here, That won’t be the case.
“Their goal is to help you improve and get better, not really recruit. I feel like there are some of the best DL coaches in the country, and they’re definitely genuine. They’ve seen a lot of things in life, and they’ve helped me grow as a player. A person not just a player!
The early goals at Durham were also high for Kane.
“What I will bring to Duke is a great man who will represent Duke on and off the court,” he said. “On the court, he’s a straight man who’s smart, fast, physical, and very skilled.”
