It’s not just you. If you want to listen to Elon Musk’s interview with Donald Trump on social media platform heard. Now we know why.
Musk tweeted about the outage at 8:18 p.m., blaming it on a distributed denial-of-service attack.
“𝕏 appears to have suffered a massive DDOS attack. Efforts are underway to shut it down. Worst case scenario, we will continue to reduce the number of live listeners and post the conversation at a later date.

Of course, it should be noted that a DDOS attack works by overloading a server with too many requests, which is no different than attracting a large number of visitors to a given website at the same time. Given the interest in Musk and Trump as fascist moguls, the little talk they planned clearly generated widespread interest. Interestingly, a source at X told the news outlet that no DDOS attack actually occurred, according to The Verge. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there was a “99 percent chance” that “Elon was lying about the attack.”
Musk added that X has been tested The system “had 8 million concurrent listeners earlier today.” Assuming Musk is telling the truth and his system can accommodate 8 million listeners, more than 8 million people may try to listen to Trump and Musk spout about their stupidity racist nonsense, which is totally justified. There are 8 billion people in the world, and Twitter reportedly has about 500 million users worldwide.
“We will have a small number of concurrent listeners listening at 8:30 PM ET and then release the unedited audio immediately,” Musk wrote in a follow-up post. Finally, the interview finally started around 8:40 pm Eastern time.
This isn’t the first time Musk has struggled to conduct an interview on X’s Spaces audio platform. A very similar thing happened in May 2023 when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tried to make a big, splashy announcement that he was running for president.
Cryptocurrency scammers appear to have been taking advantage of Musk’s technical glitches, including a famous YouTube video that is currently using a deepfake of the billionaire. As of this writing, the video has hundreds of thousands of viewers. Please do not click on any links in this video as they will only lead to scams.
