After Emma Raducanu’s stellar performance, when can we expect to see her next game in a new one sky sports tennis path?
The 2021 U.S. Open champion, who ended his 2023 season with a first-round exit in Stuttgart in April, has had broadly positive results since returning from an eight-month layoff last year.
Raducanu helped Great Britain reach the Billie Jean Gold Cup final by beating local favorites France on clay and continued that form at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.
She lost to world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals—a rematch from two years ago and her best performance of the year. She also defeated former two-time Stuttgart champion and three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber in the first round.
But her form took a dip at the Madrid Open when the 21-year-old withdrew after a disappointing first-round performance. Lost to world No. 82 Maria Lourdes Carr in straight sets.
Raducanu withdraws from French Open qualifying
Raducanu missed the Inter Milan event in Rome and signed up for the WTA 500 clay-court event in Strasbourg.
However, she withdrew from the tournament, which was scheduled to take place a week before the French Open started on May 26.
Although Raducanu’s protection ranking is 103, automatic entry into the main draw is not guaranteed, and the Briton is third on the waiting list.
She could have competed and competed in the qualifiers, which started on May 20, but after initially appearing on the qualifier list, she has now been removed No reason was given for her withdrawal.
“Emma and her team need to have an open dialogue [about next plans]. It’s a very positive start to the season,” Colin Fleming said. Sky Sports Tennis.
“How do you plan the next few weeks to make sure you do better? Is it to miss the rest of the clay court and get ready for grass?
“She doesn’t want to do any more shows like this [in Madrid], because it becomes a habit. She needs to clear her name and make better decisions.
“I would love to see her go to Roland Garros, even for the qualifying rounds. If she is fit, of course she can qualify. Once she gets into the main draw, who knows what will happen.”
sky sports’ Anne Cortavon also spoke about the benefits of Raducanu taking a break before preparing for the grass court season, while also pointing out the risks of waiting a long time before competing again.
“There are still a few weeks between now and the first grass court match. It’s a long training phase and she’s been on the sidelines for eight months,” said Kissavon.
“She said and testified that she gained confidence from the time she put in on the practice field.
“We talk a lot about head, heart and legs, and if your head and heart aren’t in it, your legs don’t stand a chance.
“It’s so disappointing. She said she was tired, but would you convince yourself you were more tired?”
Grass season and Wimbledon
Raducanu can warm up for Wimbledon by playing the Lexus Surbiton Cup from June 2-9, or wait until the Rothesay Open in Nottingham from June 10-16, and the Rothesay Open in Nottingham from June 17- The Rothesay Classic in Birmingham on the 23rd.
Her last chance to play competitive tennis will be at Rothesay International in Eastbourne from 24 to 29 June before the start of the All England Club Championships.
Raducanu’s breakthrough at the majors comes as the 18-year-old, who has yet to win a tour title just two months after leaving school, reached the fourth round on his debut in 2021.
It’s not all plain sailing for Raducanu
Since returning to the WTA Tour, Raducanu had failed to win any back-to-back matches until they reached the third round in Indian Wells.
After receiving a wild card to the Miami Open, she was originally scheduled to face Chinese player Wang Xiyu in the first round of the Miami Open, but was forced to withdraw from the match due to a waist injury.
She was hampered by a stomach bug when she lost her first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, but her tennis performance was encouraging and she accelerated with a victory over Marie Bouzkova in Abu Dhabi Got back on pace but was disqualified in the quarter-finals.
