The father of a 14-year-old boy accused of killing four people at a high school in Georgia, USA, has been arrested.
Colin Gray, 54, was charged Thursday with four counts of manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of child abuse, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities have charged his son, Colt Gray, with four counts of murder and say they plan to prosecute him when he becomes an adult.
A shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder on Wednesday left two teachers and two students dead and nine others injured.
In May 2023, the FBI sent local sheriff’s deputies to interview the boy and his father after receiving an alert posted online about a school shooting threat.
The boy, who was 13 at the time, denied making the comments.
The father told investigators that “he had shotguns at home, but the subject was unable to use them without supervision,” the FBI said in a statement Wednesday.
“At that time, there was no probable cause to make an arrest and no additional law enforcement action was taken at the local, state or federal level,” the FBI statement said.
Officials plan to hold a press conference Thursday evening to provide an update on the progress.
In April, the parents of a Michigan teenager who killed four students with a gun purchased for him days before the shooting were sentenced for their role in the attack.
James and Jennifer Crumbley were both found guilty of manslaughter and were each sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison.
The case is believed to be the first time a parent of a child involved in a mass shooting has been held criminally accountable.
