First reaction to Fede Alvarez Alien: Romulus All in, the consensus seems to be: “Damn!”
Whether that’s a good thing or not depends entirely on your stance on slime and gore, but the social reaction to the film that’s emerged today includes some interesting insights. everyone seems to like it Romulus“‘s practical effects, as well as praise for actors Carly Spaeny and David Jonson, seemed largely consistent. But some criticism suggested the film was too referenced to previous entries in the series, and you’ll either love it or hate it by the end One scene. Let’s dig in, starting with io9’s own Germain Lussier:
#AlienRomulus is a wild roller coaster ride through the first six Alien films, using clips from all of them to tell a focused, mostly self-contained story filled with glorious gore and scares. As the plot progresses, it gets better and better, ending with a stunning third-act twist. pic.twitter.com/mY8Hkbe0gD

#AlienRomulus This was the first time I felt scared while watching an Alien movie. Rain, played by Cailee Spaeny, is the perfect character to follow on this journey, and with the twists and turns of Fede Álvarez, you never know where Romulus is going to go. The third act is really wild. I dig… pic.twitter.com/vEaiz5966B

That ending!

#AlienRomulus It’s about not breathing in space. Scott’s prequel and an annoying amalgamation of the first two. Fight desperately to find your identity. Sometimes it’s true (and it’s morbid and twisted), and sometimes it’s not, but Fede’s tactile suit gives us the grittiest, dirtiest entrance yet! pic.twitter.com/1NddrwWVtA

Aliens are scary again! #AlienRomulus Playing all the greatest hits, paying homage to the entire series, and then launching into the most jaw-dropping final scene I’ve seen in a while. The anti-corporate fangs have never been sharper, and David Jonson is the (milk) beating heart of this film. pic.twitter.com/t2X7ASVHEk

#AlienRomulus is a rich, rich franchise game. Fede Álvarez controlled the atmosphere. There are some bad jump scares, unearned series callbacks, and an inconclusive final act, but there’s a lot to enjoy here, as it has exciting set pieces. David Jonson is an absolute standout. pic.twitter.com/s6RR0lxb96

happy to report @fedalvarof #AlienRomulus marvelous. The two hours passed quickly and both Carly Spaeny and David Jonson gave excellent performances. Love using practical effects. You don’t have to have seen any other Alien movies to watch this one. But it will help. pic.twitter.com/eo2EZxTNnj

#AlienRomulus Very disgusting. It starts slow and then gets confusing. I didn’t find the characters memorable, but it made up for it with the most bizarre settings and creature designs. It raises the stakes in every scene and just when you think it’s over, think again. I understand why it’s rated R. pic.twitter.com/8lwLW2fpF3

Alien: Romulus isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. Instead, Fede Alvarez tells a classic horror tale with some truly brilliant visual storytelling. It’s too nostalgic at times, but Feder has proven his trilogy’s worth.

“Alien: Romulus” is mostly a gratuitous nostalgia drama that remixes what came before, with some occasional strong kicks, but in a series known for its psychosexual weirdness, it’s The safest, blandest, most boring entry in the series ever. i don’t like it pic.twitter.com/n3RtpYvXgJ

The alien Romulus was a curious man. There are effective scares, but each scene feels like a video game level, theme park ride intro, or Horror Nights maze. The character work didn’t impress me at all either, and I’m someone who gets labeled easily.
This isn’t for me. pic.twitter.com/kRayfGuoR4
