As you might expect, not every parent wants to equip their children with cell phones, especially given the rise in cyberbullying and the amount of disruption they cause at school. Fortunately, Fitbit Ace LTE is a more minimalist option, with an all-time low price of $199.95 ($30 off) on Amazon, Best Buy, and Google stores as of August 25.
Unlike most smartwatches, the Ace LTE is aimed specifically at kids. This durable watch features the same internals and LTE connectivity as the Google Pixel Watch 2 for calling, messaging, and instant location sharing. It also comes with a Tamagotchi-like sidekick (nicknamed Eejie) and several wrist-based video games, all of which require kids to complete various exercise goals to gain entry. What’s more, Fitbit recently launched Tap to Pay, allowing kids with Greenlight or GoHenry accounts (both of which offer debit cards for kids and teens) to make purchases anywhere Google Pay is accepted.
One big caveat with Fitbit’s latest wearable is that it requires a $9.99 per month or $120 per year subscription to take advantage of the LTE-based features. In other words, Ace LTE does not require a mobile phone or a telecommunications provider. Additionally, Google is offering a 50% discount on annual subscriptions to Ace Pass through August 31, bringing the total price of the watch and its data plan down to $260.
