At a conference in 2017, Kamala Harris said she was “woke” and that “everyone needs to be woke.”
The video of her saying this went viral on social media because in our current political climate, few people want to be woken up, certainly not their political leaders.
Waking up is part of the problem. Being woke is a big part of why we are in the country we are in right now. In terms of popularity, “Woke” is on par with Biden’s economic policies.

A 2017 video of Vice President Kamala Harris calling for “everyone” to “woke up” has resurfaced on social media, prompting critics and conservatives to lambast the official Democratic nominee as a “communist official” , “too radical” and unfit to serve as president.
“We have to stay awake. Like everybody needs to be awakened. You can talk about whether you’re the most awake or the most awake, but just stay more awake, not less awake,” then-Sen. . Harris spoke at the 2017 Recode annual code conference, where attendees included Laurene Powell Jobs, the philanthropist and widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
The meeting focused on issues such as immigration and the environment, with Harris speaking out against the Trump administration’s drug and immigration policies before calling on Americans to “wake up.”
