Democrats reacted favorably to President Joe Biden’s remarks about how he wants to deal with the economy, according to a Fox News digital focus group that expressed support in real time during Thursday’s presidential debate.
A group of Republicans, Democrats and independents used the dial to give live reactions to the start of the debate, with Biden arguing that his economic record is no worse than that of former President Trump.
“Let’s see what I left behind as president. What Mr. Trump left behind for me,” Biden said. “Our economy is in freefall. The pandemic has been handled terribly. A lot of people are dying.”
Biden criticized for ‘old’ appearance, ‘weak’ voice in first presidential debate: ‘deeply shocking’
“The economy is collapsed. There are no jobs. Unemployment is up to 15%,” Biden added. “We’re in a situation where if you look at everything his administration has done, he hasn’t done much at all. When he left, things were in disarray.”
Democrats in focus groups agreed with the president, while Republicans and independents went in completely opposite directions.
Republicans in focus groups almost unanimously disagreed with Biden’s views on Trump’s economy.
During the debate, the two sparred over inflation, with Biden saying Trump’s economy was too bad and had no room for the price increases many Americans had to endure over the past few years.

Democrats also agreed with Biden’s criticism of Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Support among Republicans and independents is trending downward.
Yet when Biden says he wants to limit “corporate greed” to lower the price of essentials like gas, groceries, prescription drugs and housing, independents seem to agree somewhat.
“There is more work to be done,” he said. “Working people are still struggling. The combination of people and businesses I left behind is why we’re in this problem now.”

“We’re trying to bring the price down on the table, that’s what we’re going to do,” he added.
