Argentinian prosecutors have launched an investigation into former President Alberto Fernandez, who is accused of causing serious injury to his ex-partner.
Last week, former first lady Fabiola Yáñez, 43, filed a lawsuit accusing the 65-year-old former leader of assaulting her during their relationship, which ended when he stepped down in 2023 After the end.
In evidence given in Spain, she described how she suffered psychological threats and physical attacks and accused Mr Fernandez of forcing her to have an abortion.
He denies all charges. He is banned from leaving the country during the investigation.
On Wednesday, prosecutor Ramiro Gonzalez formally submitted information to the court seeking charges against the former president.
An investigation was launched after local media leaked and published photos of Ms Yanez’s black eye and bruises, sparking outrage in Argentina.
Mr Fernandez denies the accusations against him are baseless.
In an interview published earlier this week, he claimed Ms Yanez’s dark circles were the result of “cosmetic treatment”.
Under Argentine law, a judge will ultimately decide whether to bring any charges.
Mr. Fernandez first became involved in politics in the early 1980s, during the final days of the military dictatorship.
He served as president from 2019-23.
