A former adviser to Barack Obama says the level of excitement generated by the Republican National Convention is comparable to when his boss was making waves in the political world in 2008.
Van Jones, now a CNN contributor, made the comments late Thursday following comments from panelist Scott Jennings, a Republican strategist.
Jennings was outraged. Jones said the “spirit” he exuded was not abnormal.
“The spirit of this guy [Jennings] Yes, you think it’s because he was drunk, he wasn’t, that’s the whole thing,” Jones said.
He added, “The last time I was at a convention it felt like Obama in 2008. Something was happening.”

Van Jones calls Trump RNC like Obama in 2008
Given the devastation and damage Obama endured, it might be hard to remember that Barak was actually a great orator and delivered an incredible speech in 2008.
Whatever your opinion of him, his political brilliance is undeniable.
He made himself famous with his “Red States and Blue States” speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
Now, sixteen years later, Jones gets the same feeling from Trump and the RNC. After rousing speeches from wrestler Hulk Hogan, UFC president Dana White and a performance from rocker Kid Rock, it’s hard to argue.
The energy and momentum now are clearly on Trump’s side. The attempt on the former president’s life has raised enthusiasm to unprecedented levels.
After all, Hogan gave a speech at the RNC, and after it was over, you were going to want to eat a bowl of Rusty Nails… without any milk.
Hulk Hogan ripped off his shirt at the Republican National Committee and chanted to America: “What happened last week, they shot my hero, they tried to kill the next president of the United States, enough is enough!!!” pic.twitter.com/XK91TCkTgi

Be prepared for what’s coming
Van Jones seems to have finally accepted reality. The energy transfer is real. Voters say enough is enough. Political persecution, violence. It’s time to find a new direction.
A few weeks ago, Jones, who was in the denial phase, was nearly in tears after watching a debate between President Biden and Trump.
“This is not what we need Joe Biden to do,” he lamented.
Of course, Van Jones has been sounding the alarm for much longer than most of his media peers. In 2022, after a press conference in which Biden was completely lost, Jones called the president “vague” and “meandering,” and even compared him to President Ronald Reagan, who was nearing the end of his life. Regan has Alzheimer’s disease.
Surprisingly, Jones has also praised Trump in the past, saying he “doesn’t get enough recognition” for the good things he does for the black community.
Earlier this week, Jones contrasted Biden’s response to testing positive for the coronavirus to Trump’s return to fighting after being nearly killed.
“Today is a terrible day. If you step back and look at this, strong or weak, a bullet couldn’t stop Trump. A virus just stopped Biden,” he said in devastating comments at the Democratic National Committee said.
Jennings was excited. Hulk Hogan is excited. The entire RNC was excited. Now, even Van Jones is feeling it. I hope the outcome of Trump’s November election will be like Obama’s in 2008.
