Four soldiers were killed in a gun battle with suspected militants in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir region.
The incident took place on Monday night when security forces were conducting a search operation in the forests in Jammu’s Doda district.
Reports said the gunbattle began when militants allegedly hiding in the forest opened fire.
An armed insurgency against Indian rule has raged in Kashmir since 1989, killing thousands, but the violence has declined in recent years.
